Hey, Tonya, out of the box, mine makes big holes too, but if they bother me, I tend to scratch at them with my fingernails to reduce them. I guess they bothered me more at first. The needles that come on the machine are big and chunky.
The best thing you can do is to buy that attachment that lets you replace each needle singly. I bought one when I bought my machine but haven't put it on yet. Once you have that attachment, it's easy to change to smaller needles and to use as many as you'd like (up to 5).
