Vivienne, please please dont take this the wrong way. If you are Welsh you are no doubt used to some spellings which are very much not English. It makes perfect sense for you to question whether the eofk was a word or a typo because the spelling of the language of your native country is very very different indeed from English. I live in Cheshire, dont speak Welsh, but go to Abakhan in Mostyn very often and am used to the signs there. To me, it looks wierd and unpronouncable written down, but sounds lovely when spoken.
I think eofk was a typo for work.
