Tried contacting Alan Muskat, but just got an e-mail from NTLH with a submission form. Except there's no submission form. Oh well. Will try to find another venue to see if what I have is in fact the hen and how to properly prepare.

Had an experience decades ago when a supervisor picked up a puffball one of the workers brought in and we were astounded when he broke off a piece and munched away. We thought for sure he'd be flippin' on the floor within the hour! I'm now a believer in puffballs! I have also found a few morels around the area. They will suddenly appear in the most strange places! Rarely the same place twice. And just last year I found how tasty they were!

It's found in rather large clusters at the base of a VERY large (and dying) oak tree. It's in a neighbor's yard. If it is, how would I prepare for eating? I munched a VERY small sliver of it. Once about three weeks ago. Today again. Found that, in the raw, it does mess up the lining in my throat and tonsils. I presume it should be cooked some how. But...is it what I think it is? If so, how to cook/prepare?
