I don't know if the roving would withstand multiple washings. Have you considered using some brown fleece and cut it to within about a half inch of the long edge to make mane? Otherwise, why not just appliqué fabric for the mane ( you could fuse it, if you want it to be real fringe-like and then do stitching over it to add more detail). The last is what I would do. Hope that makes sense--fuse the mane fabric, cut it as fringe-like as you want it, take off the fusible backing paper, and iron it on as you wish, then topstitch additional "mane" over the fused mane. It will be ulnar and last!
Jane TeagueI am making a small "Horse" blanket for a granddaughter (8 yrs old) and the fabric is a horse print. I am using wool batting and a soft flannel backing. I am going to do some free-motion embroidery on it, couching and maybe beading. I am thinking of doing a couple of the manes of the horses in wool roving with the Embellisher. Do you think this would hold up? Should I also go over it with free-motion embroidery? Her birthday was almost a month ago and Grandma is behind!
