Sometimes that can happen when you move the fiber more quickly than the needles are moving. Thus, the needles are in the fiber when you move it, pulling the needle sideways, which breaks. This happens far too quickly for the eye to see. But the solution is to "step on the gas"--increase the speed of the needles, so that they are moving in and out of the fabric more quickly, freeing it for more movement.
