Carol,
The thickest needles that I sell are size 36 triangular needles. These are for coarse work and you probably don't want to use them with fabrics. They leave a pretty good size hole.
The next needle is the 38 triangular needle. It is a good needle for working with coarse fibers. I mostly use fabric and merino roving, so I don't use this one too often.
The next two needles are the size 40 triangular and size 40 close barb. Both needles are the same thickness but the close barb needle has an extra barb on it. That makes felting go faster. This is a good all round needle. It works with roving and with fabric.
The thinnest needle I sell is the size 42 triangular. It works great with silk and silk fabrics. It leaves the smallest hole. Try these for setting up your nuno felting becuase they cause less puckering of the fabric. When your wool is attached, then wet felt it to get the full effect of the nuno felting.
The last needle is the size 38 STAR needle. This is the strongest needle that I sell. It has 4 sides instead of the 3 sides that all of the other needles have. It leaves a smaller hole than the regular size 38. It works great with machine felted wool sweaters and with thick projects. I use these most of the time in my machine.
