Celebrate Native Plants and Make a Difference
The Native Plant Society of Texas Fall Symposium will be in Houston on October 13-16 at the Omni Houston Hotel at Westside (13210 Katy Freeway @ Eldridge Parkway) and will feature two full days of learning opportunities. In addition to the traditional Symposium activities (speakers, field trips, and exhibits), Symposium 2011 will kick off Texas Native Plant Week on Saturday, Oct. 15, with Children's Educational Activities, a native plant sale, and a ribbon cutting ceremony. The day will begin with events similar to the Houston WildScapes Workshop format and conclude with a special dinner designed to educate and appeal to the general public.
Texas Native Plant Week (Oct. 16-22, 2011) is a time to recognize the role of native plants in conservation efforts. Planting native trees, shrubs, and flowers helps conserve water, improve water quality, provide habitat, and Keeps the Wild in Texas. Celebrate native plants and make a difference by using natives in your landscape this fall.
But where do you find these native plants and learn which ones have the best chance of succeeding in your local climate? Don't Throw in the Trowel! You'll find everything you need at the Native Plant Society of Texas (NPSOT) Fall Symposium!
Symposium 2011 will gather together experts, gardeners, and speakers from across the state. You'll go on field trips to native habitats in the Houston area, attend workshops, visit entertaining and educational exhibits, and find just the right selection at the native plant sale. You can visit the children's activity area, help judge flower arranging and photography competitions, attend a screening of the PBS film, Wildflowers | Seeds of History, and find rare treasures at the silent auction to raise money for scholarships.
This is the largest event hosted by the Native Plant Society of Texas. Don't miss this unique environmental education experience. The annual NPSOT Fall Symposium is held in a different part of the state each year and it is not scheduled to be back in Houston for many years.
