[machine_needle_felting] Re: Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival

Linda, I didn't realize you were Nancy's guest who demonstrated the 12 needle Embellisher. I have that sesson on DVR and have watched it several times. You are the reason I fell in love with the 12 needle machine. I already had the 7 needle and enjoyed it. I am loving the 12 needle machine and I am looking forward to the book. I can't wait to read about your techniques.

For very fine lines I use a single needle to felt them in place long enough to get them under the needles of the machine. Then I use one or two needles in the machine and felt some more. Lastly , the wet felting keeps anything from falling off later.

But how on earth did you get the lines of the house so perfect? I'm totally in AWE of your work. Your website and blog are also terrific for tips and techniques; I spend way too much time on there when I should be felting or quilting or dyeing .... Josi

I entered a couple of felted pieces into the Fine Arts building and ended up winning Best In Show with my "Provincetown" piece. The other piece I entered was the "Bottle Study" which took second place. I was surprised because machine needle felting is virtually unknown to this subculture of knitters, spinners and shepherds. My goal for entering was to introduce this new medium to these people who have unlimited access to wool roving and yarn and love to create with it. I am hoping that many more can see that it, too is a creative way to use wool from their stashes and maybe generate more interest in the art form. Photos of these two pieces are in my photo album called, "Album by Linda Hall". I have a write-up about the weekend and pics on my blog as well.
