[machine_needle_felting] Re: silk roving
Nuno felting uses silk as the foundation and wool fibers are applied to the silk. I suggest that you use a lightweight silk like silk chiffon or silk organza. I have not had much luck using polyester fabrics for nuno felting.
I also use very thin needles when I am trying to get the nuno felting look. They are size 42. You can buy then from my website. They cause less crinkling of the fabric as you are felting.
Also be sure to felt in your wool from both sides. I know you like using reclaimed wool, but you may want to get some merino wool roving for nuno felting. The longer fibers give better results that the short fibers we tend to get when trying to reclaim wool from old sweaters. I sell the merino roving on my website as well and it is currently at clearance prices as I am trying to reduce my inventory before the new year.
If you would like to talk about how I do nuno felting, you can always call me at 843-695-1494. I'll be glad to answer your questions.
