My washer & dryer have steam settings. I am going to fold the roved item up accordion style and secure it with elastics. Then gently wash the item in warm soapy water, and then rinse it, then steam it, all done in the washing machine. Then place the item in the steam setting of the dryer to further shrink and set the roving. Then allow the product to dry on towels on a flat surface, allowing the item to further shrink.
It seems that what you are all describing can be done by doing that and saving a lot of time to get the same results. I am going to try that after the
holidays and purchase some fabrics and non barbed thin needles to use with the silk roving materials. I think I read that size 42 thin non barbed needles should be used with silk. If I am wrong, please correct me.
Has anyone tried the above technique? If you have, what were the results?
I am a total beginner in the world of roving, my two machines BabyLock & Janome never used. My roving stash growing. I even read somewhere that dryer lint can be used?
I need help from those of you that are experienced in this field.
My aim, to place a felted design on a pair of dungarees or a dungaree shirt of jacket.
