Hi Pam,
The technique you are using to felt old or ready made materials is called fulling. Felting is taking fibres and making them into cloth or sculpture. Wet felting is done with soap and water and loose fibres without using needles so you won't see needle holes. The fibres which are hand felted might be difficult to tell apart from the ones done on the machine except for the sculptural ones. These have to be done by hand as they wouldn't fit in the machine. Then there is taking pre made felt and embellishing it with all sorts of other things, this is usually done on a machine or with a hand felting needle. I am not sure if it could be done with wet methods. Perhaps someone else knows better than I do. You are probably confused even more now. The main thing is not to worry about it, it will become clearer with experience. Just have fun trying out all sorts of techniques and maybe invent a few of your own.
Suzy.

The only way I've felted is by taking old coats and skirts from the thrift store and washing them in hot water and drying in a hot dryer.I am looking forward to learning all these great things .
