Barb,

  You can felt silk roving  just like wool roving and it will hold together.  I think it is the sericin that holds it together.  BUT, it does not give you a fabric that has any drape.  It is hard like paper.  So using a carrier foundation fabric is the best way to use silk roving when you want some drape.
