Well I see a lot of discussion about grafts but no one has mentioned having any blossoms.

Sheree,
Do your grafteds bloom every year after the first, or do they spend the next year or two focusing on growth?

I've found that my grafted cuttings all bloom the same year if I purchased them before June. Anything purchased after that bloom the following year. As for rooted cuttings, none of mine have bloomed yet and some are over a year old. So I've found that grafted seems to be the way to go, although I do worry about if the graft ever breaks?

what is it with grafted cuttings taking so long to bloom?  i remember that over 50% of the grafted plants i bought in 2001 bloomed that same year.

Viv, I've got 2 B. Golds, ome from 2008, one from 2009.  both from fcn grafted, neither have bloomed yet, but make it thru winter fine.  i have Mardi Gras bought in 2005 from J Little, bloomed in 2009, still doing fine, but won't bloom this year.  bought another Mardi Gras this year from 1-stop aloha.  no exp with j105

dan - do you withhold water completely until the following spring?  also, do you cut off the leaves are just let them fall on their own?

Dete,

Yes, I did my normal thing. About the end of Nov. I put them all up on the patio and quit watering.

My grafted Butterfly Gold has not blossomed also. Last year it started to grow an inflo but it was too late. This year it has been fighting the white stuff and possibly the dreaded FMV. I was afraid I was going to lose it but it seems to have stabilized so I guess there's hope.

Yes, they were grafted and I bought them from FCN.  I have no idea how they rotted.  Probably from neglect because of an over-abundance of plumies.

Hi Pals,
I am considering buying rooted cuttings of Butterfly Gold, J105, and Mardi Gras from Florida Colors.  I have bought them before and rotted them  Does anyone have experience growing these plants?  Are they easy or hard to grow?  Should I buy them in the spring rather than now?  If you have grown even one of the above, please give me your opinion.
Thanks,
Viv
