Re: [Native Gardening] Re: A little perplexed.

My lilacs and lilies of the valley are here to stay.

They have been here longer than I have; they are grandfathered in; and no one is taking them away from me. (Well, some landscapers attacked the lilies of the valley, but the flowers prevailed.)

I agree with Frank.  I have non-natives in my yard, too.  They are non invasive ones.  I have german irises, and a tree peony.  They aren't invasive, and I like them!

As long as the plants you choose are not invasive and can harm natural areas, I'm willing to advise you although when ever possible I will suggest native alternatives first. I'm not sure everyone here is a purist as I too have some non native plants in my own yard but those few I have are well behaved and reside in beds closest to my house, all my native plants are on the perimeter of my property. Some other problems can occur when planting natives with non natives tho. Your exotic plants require more care, watering, fertilizing, etc where sees Natives don't want that kind of fuss and actually thrive without any extra effort on your part so keeping these planting separate is in both yours and theirs best interests

Greetings from Michigan!

I feel a little perplexed, is it allowed to ask question's about planting flowers, for tips, and ask for advice about selecting the right kind of flowering plants for different kinds of gardens such as the right plants for making a "Fragrant Garden" or would it be best if I found another group for these needs.
I will have different kinds of questions regarding planting flowers, trees and shrubs.
I realize your a specialized group for native plants and landscapes, I would want to respect your guidelines.

Kindest Regards,
Victoria.
