Just to clarify what is permitted here as well as generally.
Copyright law can be complicated. There is a notion that
anything online or that does not carry the traditional copyright
mark is ok to use in any way. Don't believe it!
Please respect copyrights.
It's not only good manners, it is the law.
In addition, Yahoo takes these things seriously as do the
authors of copyrighted material. Copyrights apply regardless
of the reason. Charity or teaching purposes are not
exceptions. Members who fail to respect copyrights will be
placed on moderation indefinitely and banned for persisting
Sometimes a copyrighted item is innocently posted; when
that happens the message will be removed from the archives.
You may post a link to an online source such as blogs; photo
pages( like Flickr, Picture Trail, Webshots etc.), commercial
sites (unless it is one where you have a financial interest).
Unless it is your own work, NEVER copy/paste or scan/upload anything
from any source whatsoever and post that in a message or post within
the files, photos or database of this list. You may post a link
and brief description in a message or in the Links area.
Copyright exists the instant any written words or works of art
are created. The traditional 'copyright' symbol is not required.
While an idea cannot be copyrighted, the way an idea is
expressed is subject to copyright. That includes the
html code and web pages where written or graphic material is
found. While it is true that certain materials have 'aged out'
of copyright and are considered in the public domain, that does
not mean it is ok to use it in any way you choose especially
if found online. Always ask for permission.
Printed Sources: Newsletters, Periodicals, Books etc: You may
provide the name and other identifying information, page numbers
and a brief description in your own words. You may quote a few
lines from the book, but no complete tutorials etc. typed or
scanned directly from a printed source.
Pictures posted in our photo section may not be posted
elsewhere or used for your own work without express written
permission by the artist. No exceptions.
Information posted on this list, either as messages or as files
remain the writer's property and may not be re-posted
elsewhere or used in any way except personally without the
writer's express written permission.
There are many online places to find out more, or ask and
we'll be happy to help if you have questions. The best
policy is "If in doubt, ask. If still in doubt, don't!)

Martha Rose
