Re: [Native Gardening] Transplanting small paw paw tree

Hit and miss...Paw Paw much like Sumac will send out rhizomes that can produce a node which will send up a new stem but unless you get a stem that produced its own roots than you will lose it every time. Sometimes its a better idea just to buy a new plant and because Paw paw can only be sold in a container ( not B&B ) it is relatively cheap

We abuse the land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.

A friend gave me a sapling paw paw tree last year. He dug it from his yard and brought it over and helped me plant it. Unfortunately, it did not survive. I told the friend and he said he will try again, dig down and try to sever the root that connects it to the mother tree (it is a colonizing species) wait until next spring and then dig it up for me.
Does anyone have experience transplanting paw paw? Is this the right way to do it?
