Re: [Native Gardening] Plant Identification Help

My guess is that its Viola sororia...The Common Blue Violet which is a native species and the most common one found through out the US. Interesting tho about this species, it comes in not only shades of blue but also white, purple and a bi-color variety, all the same species. Lets not also forget that not all violets are created equal as there are several species that are somewhat rare.

We abuse the land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.

I found this pleasant-looking groundcover growing in a wooded area of my yard and was hoping someone could help me identify it. It's either a legacy plant from the previous owner or made it's way into my yard on its own. I live in Washington, DC.

Thanks for anyone's help. I might post a few other plant photos with the same question in coming posts.
