I wasn't able to access the complete articles, but PVC nestboxes have some inherent problems which may have been addressed in the second page of the article. They retain heat but the biggest problem is the smooth interior walls which makes it difficult for young birds to "climb" to the hole where they will receive food, test their wings (exercise), and eventually fledge.

Peanut butter should be the natural kind...the only ingredient should be peanuts (do not use Jif, Skippy, etc.). If using smooth peanut butter, adding grits or cornmeal not only adds calories, but a texture that makes it easier to swallow and digest.

this. I am surprised that they did not mention peanut
