There has been a lot of nestling loss at a local prairie once they started using the PVC nest boxes. One theory was that they heated up and cooled down too quickly and the nestlings couldn't adjust to the constant temperature changes over the course of the day.
I also read that you should add a lot of small seeds or cornmeal to a peanut butter mix so that it doesn't choke the birds. What about oatmeal, I wonder?
