the native ginger is a good guess...the leaves are not shiny and the stems are more horizontal than vertical.  running up the front of the stem is a channel of sorts. so that the top portion which runs into the top of the leaf is squarish....but the rest of the stem (the back) is rounded.  i hope i described that well.
 
there is no discernible ginger smell though...does wild ginger have that?  i'm going to do a little research.

I think wild ginger is a good guess. Look at the stems. Are they rather thick? Do they grow in a generally horizontal direction? Wild ginger does bloom but the flowers are not visible unless you look underneath the leaves in the spring. They have maroon flowers, somewhat cup shaped, which are pollinated by ants or beetles. The native wild ginger has soft green leaves; there is a European variety with smooth, shiny leaves.
