Rebekah, I agree that tryourdesigns.com is a great source for needles. She has excellent shipping rates to Canada. However, it took a while for my package to arrive. The needles probably needed a special inspection at the border... Good luck with your project.

I just do needle felting from time to time. I am currently working on a purse (well, not super actively). I also just used it to texturize denim. That was so fast and so much fun! I made some really whackadoo jeans with the texturized denim. :)

I also am new, joined back in January I think. I have a needle felting machine, purchased roving, Linda’s book/Cd and other items but have not yet jumped into this new hobby ! I also machine embroider and have a weaving loom . Also want to teach myself to quilt. I have a full time job however and an English bull dog, English sheep dog puppy, parrot, cat and grand baby so lots to take care of ! I pretty much lurk and look at everyone’s else creations and think someday. Great to be on a group with so many creative people.

Please share how you got started and what you created first!

The Tree canopy in major cities has decreased by about 0.2 percent in recent years (mid-to-late 2000s). This amounts to a loss of about 4 million trees a year. This is the conclusion of an article, "Tree and Impervious Cover Change in U.S. Cities" by David J. Nowak and Eric J. Greenfield. The article appears in the journal Urban Forestry & Urban Greening (free access to full article).

As the study points out, "trees provide various benefits associated with air and water quality, building energy conservation, cooler air temperatures, reductions in ultraviolet radiation, and many other environmental and social benefits." Trees therefore are vital to urban health and well-being.
Even in the one city where tree cover increased, Syracuse, the news was not necessarily good. The tree canopy in Syracuse increased by one percent during the study period. However, the increase was dominated by European buckthorn (Rhamnus cathertica), a nasty invasive tree/shrub.

[machine_needle_felting] Used DVDs for Sale

I don't know if this appropriate for this list or not but I am cleaning out my bookshelves again and decided to put some used Art and FiberArt Instruction Videos up for sale on Ebay and Amazon. I would like to see this list members get first dibs on them before anyone else around the world. They are all in mint condition and need a good home. If you have any questions, email me off-list and I would be happy to answer them.

As an aside, I just purchased a new Bernina 830 and am swamped under the learning curves right now. When I learn how to use it, I will post some pics of new work. I have joined the Yahoo Bernina groups for help with the software so I won't burden this list with questions. I can see what I want to do with it but I have to train my hands to get there. I see it as an amalgamation of possibilities that can be done that can't be done with free-motion. We'll see.

I own an Embellisher and I can tell you that it creates lint like crazy. The felting machines are made for that purpose and are built to keep the lint out of the machine's inner workings. Not so for the regular home machines. If you use it for a felting machine be prepared to open the bobbin door often and clean out the accumulated lint. And use a vacuum attachment! This is one time where canned air can do more harm than good.

I think it is the lint, although it may be a pain to convert back and
forth. I lucked out and purchased a 6-needle Babylock Embellisher on
Sewitsforsale. Don't use it all that often (yet) but this way I don't
have to convert a machine back to sewing when I need to use it for
something other than needle punching! Let me warn you, it is addicting!

Just this week, Pinterest had a pin showing the sleeves of old sweaters being used as sleeves for cylindrical glass candle holders.
They were BEAUTIFUL. They looked so warm and cozy. Perfect for candles in the home on cold evenings. The example in the pin had a grouping using white, cream, beige, etc..... sweater sleeves. I'm sure other parts of sweaters could be sewn with one seam to utilize more of the sweaters.

Lots of goodies for you today.

These have turned out to be prettier than I could have imagined and so much fun to sew out, as long as you follow your color layer sheet.
I have moved the Spring Quilt Blocks to their own page as there were going to be just too many for the page they were on. These are so pretty and make you feel like spring. The quilt designs come in 5x5, 6x6, 7x7 and 8x8 and you get them all. The designs come in 4x4, 5x5, 6x6, 7x7 and 8x8, so you could design your own quilt block if you want or make coasters etc. out of them. For anyone who orders the full set they will also get a set of redwork designs when I get them done. Right now I have all 12 blocks done and will be posting all pictures later today. I will be leaving at reduced price until the end of next week so that people on fixed income like me can get them too. You can see all the completed blocks on the web site and on the Home page of the yahoo group later today. One thing more. This quite a large set, so if you would like the designs on a CD, I would be more than happy to do that for no extra charge, just let me know with a note in the Note to Seller box, or click on the paypal box that says full set shipped.
